These "scripture songs" (see http://www.the-highway.com/articleJuly98.html for great article) work for congregational singing. They are the song part of "the sermon and the song". Each song could and should accompany a "sermon", a teaching on the subject. They help make the main point of the teaching easier to remember than forget.
